In the spring term, we explored timbre and to begin with we are going to continue this thinking

For those of you who cannot remember, hopefully this will help.


Timbre - Listening:

Listen to the follow pieces.

  • Can you name the instruments you can hear and their characteristics within family.
  • Why have these instruments been chosen.
  • Collect vocabulary of their sounds (timbre) and use to label a drawing which comes to mind when they’re listening to the music.


Choose ONE instrument and ‘follow’ it through each piece.

  • Can they hear it in every piece?
  • How is it being used? For thunder/birdsong?
  • What about its use of dynamics?
